“To Live in His House”

1 Peter 5:1-7

by Pastor Richard Strum

A Message from AoG:
Dear Church:
I want to highlight again the dire need for relief assistance in Haiti.  Numbers are still inconclusive on the deaths but we know they are staggering.  Over 3 million people in Port-Au-Prince have been adversely affected by the tragic earthquake that hit this island on Tuesday evening.  Already the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, Port-au-Prince has for all practical purposes been left in ruins.
AG in Haiti:  The Assemblies of God has two missionary families on the ground there, and reports are that they are safe.  But we have 273 churches and more than 66,000 members and we do not know the fate of most of them, including their superintendent, Rev. Calixte Fleuridor.
Convoy of Hope has had an ongoing ministry in Haiti where they feed 7,000 children every day.  So their warehouse there was full of food, water, and other supplies in order to meet that huge daily demand.  Amazingly, the warehouse had just been restocked.
Donations:  With needs so great, we cannot possibly meet them without the help of churches and members here in the United States.  So I am appealing to our churches and leaders to give sacrificially for relief efforts in Haiti.  I am especially appealing to our 12,400 churches to take an offering this Sunday for Haiti relief and send these funds to us so we can immediately respond with help.  You can donate money online by clicking “Help for Haiti” button on the www.ag.org homepage or by sending donations to 1445 N. Boonville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802 marked Haiti Relief.  You can also download a video to play in your church on Sunday from www.ag.org
Volunteers:  Many churches and individuals have called regarding the possibility of volunteering to go to Haiti.  Because of serious security concerns, both Convoy of Hope and the Assemblies of God will not be deploying any volunteer teams until we can ensure their safety.  Watch for future announcements.
Health care workers:  We have teams from both Convoy of Hope and HealthCare Ministries (HCM) there in Haiti now.  HCM will be sending larger medical teams within the next few days and there is still a strong need for high-level health professions such as doctors, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistance and nurses, to join these teams.  For more information on this call 417-866-6311 or e-mail logistics@healthcareministries.org
Beyond giving, please pray for those who have been affected by this disaster.  Pray that the gospel will advance as people show compassion and mercy in this situation.  Thank you for your support and prayers.  May God richly bless you and your congregation.
George O. Wood
General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God

  • Art is continuous confirmation of iVALUE truths

The artwork of Ron DiCianni for the Assemblies of God and the iVALUE program were developed separately, but they are made for each other.

  • Bike For The Light embarks on second tour

Johnny Kelley biked 10,000 miles through 16 states last year to raise money and awareness for Speed the Light. He spoke to more than 75,000 students and raised more than $10,000 and is planning for numbers to be even bigger this year. New tour begins in Dallas, Texas, on March 1, 2010, and will end at National Fine Arts Festival in Detroit, Michigan, this August.

  • HCM commits the month of March to restoring Haiti

HealthCare Ministries is committing the month of March to getting medical teams into Haiti. HCM hopes to create a long-term presence in the country.

  • Jesus in America

After being asked to lead the opening prayer for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos was denied because of his refusal to omit Jesus' name from the prayer. Several recent polls express a majority of Christians in America do not consider belief in Jesus a requirement for eternal life. Zollie L. Smith Jr., national director of AG U.S. Missions, says these findings show a need for Christ-centered ministries in the United States.

  • Ministry continues, but devastation still taking toll

As Convoy of Hope, AG World Missions and others work to provide relief to those suffering in Haiti, Calixte Fleuridor, general superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Haiti, tells of the trauma survivors are still experiencing.
